Hi all,

I was wondering how likely an Ethiopian living abroad would consider coming back home for their wedding? What factors would you consider in making the decision to have the wedding in Ethiopia as opposed to the place you're currently residing in?

Hi mikeleyik, your question is thoughtful question. as I live abroad, I wouldn't like to have my wedding in Ethiopia mainly because I like simplicity in my wedding. In America it is easy to have simple wedding than in Ethiopia.

What about in terms of expenses? Which do you believe is more expensive? I would think having a wedding in the states is more expensive than having it in Ethiopia.
Also, what about family members that aren't in the states, would that be a factor considering a wedding in Ethiopia?

I believe both are expensive if u want to have a decent wedding in the states the avarage is 8000 dollars to 9000 dollars, also if u want a good wedding in ethiopia it might actually cost u more, u know the hustle when it comes to wedding in ethiopia.

Definitely religion and family play a big factor when it comes to where to host the wedding. I have seen people go ethiopia for specific type of wedding. Any way keep it coming mikeleyik..liked ur question they are fun to answer

And also, can't forget travel costs to go to Ethiopia. I'm sure that travel alone for 6 people would me more expensive than the aforementioned $8k-9k wedding.

Thank you guys for the answers.

Considering the average number of guests at a typical wedding in Ethiopia is about 3-400, how much difference in cost would there be to have the same size wedding in the states? With all the shabang, limo, catering, decoration, hotel room, photo sess, videographer, etc...?
Would be nice to get an insight from someone whose had that kind of wedding in the states before, thanks.

ohh that sounds expensive, adding all the things u stated, ur wedding expense might skyrocketed. inviting 400 people is expensive. but to put it in figures u can have that kind of wedding anywhere from 30,000 to 40,000 dollars including wedding dresses and suits, which is still average comparing it having the same size wedding in Ethiopia. even in Ethiopia if u wanted something like that it might go up to 600000 birr

So for a wedding of that size, there's pretty much not that much of a difference then, since $30k is roughly about 600k birr.
